Poly ether ether ketone (PEEK)
This is a semi-crystalline
polymer with high mechanical strength, thermal properties up to 240 °c, creep
resistance under load, wear resistance and low coefficient of friction.
N.B. Its high temperature
resistance is reduced by the addition of even limited load.
Product strengths:
·
Thermal stability beyond
240°c
·
Good chemical resistance
·
High dimensional stability
·
Good abrasion resistance
and low friction coefficient
·
Very high rigidity also at
low temperature
·
Electrically insulated
Product weakness:
·
Very high cost
·
No inherently UV stability
·
Relatively low notch impact
resistance
·
Thermal resistance
decreases to as low as 140°c under
pressure
·
Low resistance to acetone
Applications:
Mechanical: Heat
resistance, dimensional stability at temperatures and high wear resistance make
it a good choice for high performance pieces at low temperatures as well as
high temperatures, e.g. gear bushes, in aircraft and aerospace industries.
Electrical: Very good
dielectric and insulation properties.
Chemical:
Used for valve seals, pump housings due to very good chemical resistance.
Nuclear: High resistance
to Gamma radiation is particularly suited to nuclear applications.
