Polyethylene terephthalate
(PET)
It is a semi-crystalline polymer
developed for technical applications and suitable for mechanical parts which
need dimensional stability and low coefficient of friction. Operating
temperatures ranging from -20 to 100°c.
Product strengths:
·
Low friction coefficient
·
High dimensional stability
at temperatures as well as humidity
·
Compressive strength even
at low temperatures
·
Excellent machinability
·
High toughness and surface
strength
·
Good electrical insulating
properties
·
Easy to varnish and polish
Product weakness:
·
Limited dielectric
properties
·
Sensitive to hydrolysis
·
No high shock resistance as
a consequence of its rigidity. It is possible to modify with other polymers but
this may change its properties, e.g.
stiffness, compressive and flexural strength
Applications:
Mechanical: Due to low
coefficient of friction, it’s particularly suitable for sliding blocks, slide
ways, bearings, guides, etc.
High dimensional stability make
it an excellent option for precision parts that need tight tolerance in moist
and hot conditions.
Electrical: Excellent
electrical features (long term stability) are suitable for insulation and other
electrical components.
Chemical:
Good acid and chlorine solution resistance
Food contact: Widely used
in thefood industry due to physiologically inert properties.
